My twelve-year photographic study of Mitchelville Beach Park revealed its mystical beauty. The beach has been a natural habitat and quiet haven for many resident and migratory shorebirds. The area is also rich in history, having once been part of Mitchelville, America’s first self-governed town of formerly enslaved people. The Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park demonstrates, celebrates and honors the energy and spirit of Native Islanders and the Gullah Geechee people and culture, making this an important and lovely area of the country.
