The MANDARIN POPPY, or Papaver nudicaule, symbolizes the loyalty and faith that exists between lovers. According to Chinese legend, the brave Lady Yee married the warrior Hsiang Yu. When Hsiang led his troops into battle, Lady Yee followed and stood by his side. Hsiang’s army was eventually surrounded, and defeat was imminent. Lady Yee encouraged Hsiang by dancing with his sword. Petals of the poppy flower represent her spirit as she danced in the wind.
